The state of anxiety which prevailed all over Palestine during the celebration of Nebi Moussa, an important Arab religious fete, has subsided with the return of the pilgrims to their homes.
Noon, Friday, considerable tension was felt due to rumors that those Arabs participating in the noonday prayer services at the Mosque of Omar, were divided regarding the advisability of organizing a protest march against the death sentences imposed on some of the Arabs found guilty of murder during the riots of last August.
The pilgrims from Nablus, it was reported, were especially anxious to parade, but police did not allow crowds to congregate in the streets near the mosque and following the prayer the Arabs departed peacefully to their homes.
A further ultimatum, it is reported, has been sent to High Commissioner Chancellor, demanding that the death sentences be commuted.
