Arab Legion forces have evacuated another portion of the Arab “triangle” area on the central front which was ceded to Israel under the terms of the armistice agreement signed by Israel and Transjordan.
Four withdrawals in this area have gone off without a hitch and the deadline for the evacuation of areas in the vicinity, of the Jordan Valley has been advanced is a result. The latter withdrawals will open up the Hadera-Afaleh Road to Jewish traffic.
Most of the inhabitants in the Arab villages in the evacuated areas, estimated it several thousand, have elected to stay behind. In many cases they welcomed the Israeli troops with flags and flowers and speeches. In one instance, the village elders approached the Israeli Army officers and said: “As we have awaited you, so are Nablus and Ramallah waiting for you.”
