Palestinian Arabs in the United States have formed a committee in New York for the purpose of raising funds for the relief of the earthquake victims in Palestine, reports from New York in the Arab press state.
A number of Arab notables have been touring the villages in the Huleh Valley, collecting gifts in kind for the relief of the earthquake victims. Forty-seven tons of wheat have been collected so far in this way.
The Municipal and Government engineers, who have been inspecting the buildings damaged by the earthquake at Hebron, have ordered 189 houses to be pulled down and 752 to be repaired. The total toss caused by the earthquake at Hebron is estimated at about £E.200,000.
The Municipality of Jerusalem is beginning to pull down a number of buildings which were badly shaken in the earthquake and have not yet been destroyed by their owners. The work of demolition will be carried out first on those buildings which are situated near the main thoroughfares, where the constant traffic renders them more dangerous.
