A delegation of top Jewish leaders this week called on Soviet Ambassador Mikhail G. Sergeyev and expressed thanks for the position taken by Soviet delegate Andrei Gromyko at the United Nations special session on Palestine. They asked the ambassador to convey the greetings of Argentine Jewry to the Jews of the USSR.
Mr. Sergeyev told the delegation that Gromyko’s statement had been an accurate expression of Soviet policy, which holds that the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine is a “necessity.” The envoy expressed interest in the relief work being carried on here on behalf of Jewish refugees in Europe.
The delegation included Dr. Moises Goldman, president of the DAIA, central representative body of Argentine Jews; Dr. Benjamin Rinsky, secretary of the DAIA; Dr. Jacob Hellman, of the World Jewish Congress and Isaac Kaplan, a representative of the Jewish National Fund.
