Two leaders of Argentine Jewry reported today to the executive committee of the World Jewish Congress, currently in session here, that there has been an increase in anti-Semitism in Argentina. Dr. Isaac Goldenberg, president of DAIA, central body of organized Argentine Jewry, and Mare Turkow, executive director of the WJC’s South American section, said there has been an increase in physical attacks against Jews in their country.
They cited also a campaign of anti-Semitism in sections of the Argentine press, declaring that there is now in existence an anti-Semitic conspiracy on an international scale, in which Arab representatives collaborate with Nazi and Fascist groups.
Their reports came after Stephen Roth, of London, executive director of the WJC’s European Division, presented a survey showing that most of the active neo-Nazis and Fascists around the world now are in the age brackets between 30 and 40, rather than older anti-Semites who had kept to their wartime, anti-Semitic prejudices.
The greatest danger in the field of anti-Semitism now, said Dr. Roth, stems from right-wind extremists who do not come out openly with anti-Semitic programs. He stated that such groups as the American Nazi Party in the United States, or the World Union of National Socialists, which has its headquarters in Britain, are less dangerous than the more covert, right-wing groups of extremists.
