Responding to official Argentin Government assurances that the authorities there will stamp out anti-Semitism, Argentine Jewish women are expressing confidence in their country’s future by purchasing Argentine Government bonds, Mrs, Charles Hymes, president of the National Council of Jewish Women, announced today. Argentino de Mujeras Israelitas, an affiliate of the International Council of Jewish Women, had Joined with other volunteer organizations in Argentina in the bond buying effort.
In making the announcement, Mrs. Hymes expressed hope that the Argentine government would “continue taking measures of a positive nature to stamp out anti-Semitic acts.” It is heartening,” she added, “to know that responsible Argentines are acting with determination and calm reason.” Addressing the NCJW board, Label A. Katz, B’nai B’rith international president, also reported on the Argentine Jewish situation. He was optimistic on the basis of his findings from recent meetings in Buenos Aires with Government leaders there, who gave him assurances that Argentina would take strong measures against anti-Semitic groups.
