An Argentinian Jewish leader, visiting New York, told the World Jewish Congress today that the Argentinian Jewish community had “confidence in President Ongania’s recent statement in which he promised us there would be no anti-Semitism in the country.”
Dr. Eliezer Tenenbaum, the president of the Rosario DAIA, Jewish Representative Council, said that President Ongania had stated, in a message to Argentinian Jewry, that there was no room for “extremism of any sort in the country.” The Argentinian Jewish leader said that the entire community numbered about 550, 000, of whom between 350, 000 and 400, 000 lived in Buenos Aires with smaller numbers in Rosario, Cordoba, Mendoza and other centers.
