The Austrian Government has been urged to give some positive sign of its good will toward the Jews in the matter of restitution for damages inflicted by the Nazis on Jews in Austria, in a message sent by the DAIA, Argentine representative Jewish organization.

The message, made public today, expressed Argentine Jewry’s concern over the “passive” attitude of the Austrian Government toward the Jewish claims for restitution for the enormous losses suffered by Austrian Jews. The DAIA stressed that to date there had been no discernible signs of a new offer from Austria. It added that since 1953 when Chancellor Julius Raab promised to reach an agreement with the representatives of world Jewish organizations, no progress had been made in settling the claims.
