Ariel Sharon headed to Italy for talks with Israel’s most vocal European ally. The Israeli prime minister was expected to urge his Italian counterpart, Silvio Berlusconi, to moderate an upcoming European Union condemnation of Israel’s West Bank security barrier, and call for greater awareness of anti-Semitism in Europe.
