An attempt to destroy by fire the headquarters of the Jewish Kehilla of the city of Graz was reported here today. Burning strips of paper were inserted through the slot of the letterbox in the building’s front door and through a broken window. The fire was quickly brought under control and there was no damage.
Persistent rumors to the effect that Egyptian nationalist students at the University in Graz were responsible for the blaze were discounted by police who expressed the opinion that the arson attempt was probably merely a “boyish prank.” An official investigation of the incident is now under way, police reported.
