Despite the fact that the Hebrew school system of Mukacevo, a town famous for its militantly anti-Zionist chassidic rebbe, is highly praised by the school authorities, the orthodox community of Mukacevo has requested the school ministry to close the Hebrew high school, the Selbstwehr reports.

The request, inspired by Rabbi Spira, “holy father” of the community, has aroused a great deal of disapproval and criticism of the rabbi. He is charged with having used intimidation in his campaign to have parents withdraw their children from the high school. Four pupils are said to have been taken out of the school after their fathers, who are meat-sellers, were told the meat in their shops would be declared unclean.
