Australian Govt. Grants Israel Full Recognition, Backs U.N. Membership Application

The Australian Government today decided to grant the Israeli Government full recognition, it was announced here. At the same time, Australia announced that it would support Israel’s application for membership in the United Nations. Joseph B. Chifley, Australian Prime Minister, issued a statement saying that “it is clear that the new state has come to stay.” The Government of Australia believed, Chifley added, that “the new nation of Israel will be a force of special value in the world community.”
