AUSTRALIAN JEWRY “PROFOUNDLY DISTURBED” OVER ARAB HOSTILITY
The Executive Council of Australian Jewry today called upon the Australian Government to institute and support all measures for speedy and effective action by the United Nations and the Great Powers to guarantee that the State of Israel. “established under UN authority. may enjoy liberty and independence.”
The Council, in a statement issued here. noted that Australian Jews were “profoundly disturbed” by the mounting tension along Israel’s borders and by the hostile activities of the Jewish State’s Arab neighbors, It expressed admiration for the restraint shown by Israel under such provocation and appealed to the Israeli people and government to continue to exercise this restraint and pursue their efforts to solve all existing problems.
