Extension of public hospitals in the State of Victoria, Australia, has been made possible through the initiative of F. D. Michaelis, chairman of the council of the Alfred Hospital.

Sir William MacPherson, Premier, in making public plans for hospital extension and the provision of community wards, declared that the government’s action came about through Mr. Michaelis’s offer to donate $25,000 if the government would proceed with the plans.

Mr. Michaelis, one of the leaders of the Jewish community here, has given generous support to the various hospitals in the city. He is a former president of St. Kilda Hebrew Congregation, a post occupied before him by his father and now filled by Archie Michaelis, his son.
