Austrian authorities today “postponed indefinitely” a disciplinary investigation into the wartime activities of a Vienna policeman who arrested Anne Frank and her family, police announced. No reason was given.
The investigation of Karl Silberbauer, 52, was to start tomorrow. He was charged with breach of discipline for concealing his World War II role as a Gestapo officer who specialized in tracking down Jews. Silberbauer admitted arresting the Anne Frank family, and said that he was only carrying out his assigned duties under the law.
