The new Austrian chancellor, Herr Schober, at a press reception stated to the correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that the Jews of Austria and elsewhere may be assured that during his chancellorship as well as later there will be no attempt at infringing on the rights of the Jews in Austria or that the authorities will permit any violation of law and order. “I know that the Jewish population has confidence in me,” the Chancellor stated, relating an episode of how some time ago a reader of a Jewish newspaper in Austria addressed a letter to the editor of the newspaper asking whether Schober was a Jew, to which the editor replied “To our regret, no.”

The Chancellor further stated, “I had a conference with Robert Stricker, Zionist leader, who is well acquainted with my sympathies with the Zionist movement.”
