Josef Klaus, the Austrian Chancellor told Philip Hoffman, chairman of the board of governors of the American Jewish Committee, here today that his Government fought every form of anti-Semitism in Austria, open or hidden. Mr. Hoffman is now on a tour of Europe to evaluate the effects of the Second Vatican Council on Christian-Jewish relations.
The Chancellor told the American Jewish leader that neo-Nazis in Austria were an infinitely small minority who posed no danger to democracy. Mr. Hoffman also met with Cardinal Koenig, who described the progress in revision of education textbooks in Austrian church schools to expunge erroneous attitudes toward Jews, as required by decisions of the Ecumenical Council.
