Egon Scheinflug, former head of Austrian SS units who has been charged with complicity in the mass-killing of Jews in Eastern Europe during the Second World War, has been arrested, it was reported here today. Scheinflug was accused of participating in the killing of tens of thousands of Jews in Vitebsk, Zhitomir and other towns in the Ukraine and White Russia.

The Austrian Government passed a law this week, forbidding government officials to wear decorations won during the Nazi regime and during the fighting in the German army in World War II. The Austrian Ministries of Defense and Interior have ruled that no such decorations will be worn by any Austrian government official. However, other Austrian citizens will be able to continue to wear German decorations on the condition that the swastika does not appear on them.
