A serious clash between Austrian police and anti-Nazis demonstrating against Nazi holders of aryanized property developed in the British sector of Vienna today. Two anti-Nazis and a policeman were injured.
The clash followed a second attempt by an organization formed to defend the interests of the Nazi property holders to hold a public demonstration against Austrian restitution laws which may force them to return their ill-gotten gains to the rightful owners. The anti-Nazis are members of an organization of former concentration camp inmates.
When the officers of the Nazi group saw the anti-Nazis they called off their meeting but shouted insults at the anti-Nazis, some of whom destroyed their placards. An earlier meeting of the property holders called last Sunday was broken up by the anti-Nazis.
The police arrested 200 anti-Nazis, detaining them at a nearby police station. They later released all but two of the 200. The anti-Nazis reported the policeman who injured their companions. Police officials have promised a thorough investigation.
