David Ben-Gurion, Prime Minister of Israel in 1956, forced both the French and British Governments to alter their plans for the Joint Franco-British Israeli attacks against Egypt, according to Henry Azeau, a French journalist, who is the author of a new book published here today. The book presumably reveals details about the Suez-Sinai actions undertaken by Britain, France and Israel, after alleged joint planning, at the end of October 1956.
M. Azeau claims that Mr. Ben-Gurion came here personally on October 24, 1956–five days before Israel’s armed forces marched into the Sinai Desert–and forced the French to cancel plans for an earlier attack against the Suez Canal. He wrote also that Mr. Ben-Gurion forced both the French and British to guarantee that their joint air power would defend Israel against air attacks by Egypt. He charges Britain had planned to double-cross Israel. In general, he belittles Israel’s achievements in its war against Egypt in 1956.
