Axis submarines are now operating in the waters along the shores of Palestine, according to an announcement made today over the Rome radio.
Foreign correspondents stationed in Cairo were taken today by British navel authorities to a “port somewhere in the Middle East” where they were shown a British warship being refitted largely with the assistance of Jews who escaped from Nazi Germany to Palestine and who are now working for the British Navy.
Most of the refugee Jews working on the British warship can hardly speak English. They are working as technicians, skilled workmen and expert engineers. The port to which the correspondents were taken was one which used to handle the Palestine tourist trade and citrus exports and where railway engines and enormous quantities of war material are now being rapidly and easily unloaded.
