An official investigation of the anti-Jewish excesses which took place in Baltzi, Roumania, more than a week ago, justifies the complaint of the Jewish population that local officials were to blame for the disturbances, states a Bucharest dispatch from “Rador”, the Roumanian news agency.

The police officials of Baltzi are not only accused of failing to protect the Jewish population against violence, but also of actually encouraging the excesses, according to a report to the Minister of the Interior from a government inspector who was sent there. It is even stated in the report that the Sub-commissioner of Police, Nichsanu, and the Police Agent, Panait, assured the young anti-Semitic rowdies that they would not be punished, if after attacking the Jews they would testify that the Jews attacked them first.
