While Foreign Minister Jozef Beck assures the world through Geneva that this country is perfectly able to take care of her obligations to minorities without benefit of League of Nations supervision, a wild drive is under way all over Poland to dismiss Jewish teachers from the government elementary schools, while simultaneously government-subsidized Jewish schools are being closed en masse, and the process of liquidating the special sabbath schools for Jews is also beginning.
Yesterday’s Hajnt, leading Polish Jewish newspaper, ran a full-page streamer: “Liquidation of the Public School System for Jewish Children.” The leading story told how Orthodox Jewish parents are picketing the Polish schools, where their children are compelled to desecrate the Sabbath by going to classes.
Details of the anti-Jewish wave were confirmed in The Moment, which described how Jewish teachers are being replaced wholesale by non-Jews, thereby reducing recognized rights of the Jews to nothing.
