Former Prime Minister Menachem Begin, who last weekend celebrated his 76th birthday, was hospitalized Wednesday after complaining of “general weakness.”

Dr. Yonatan Halevi, of Shaare Zedek Hospital, said Begin would remain in the hospital “two or three days” to undergo tests, but that he could “probably” rule out any “serious problem.”

Halevi said his patient was ambulatory and in good spirits.

Begin, 76, has been a semi-recluse since he resigned from office in 1983, and since then has rarely been seen in public.
