The Belgian government has come out in support of the cause of the Israeli prisoners of war in Syria and indicates it will press the Syrian government for their release. In a letter addressed to the Coordinating Committee of Belgian Jewish Organizations (CCBJO), Foreign Minister Renaet van Elslande said that the Belgian government “shares their anxiety and will do its utmost to bring about a change in the attitude of the Syrian government.” The Socialist Party has also assured the Committee of its “total support” in the POW issue in a letter from its national president, Jos van Eynde.
