Belgian newspapers backed a pledge by Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt to get tough with extreme right-wing political groups. Verhofstadt’s government agreed to crack down on the extreme right after a Flemish regional minister, Johan Sauwens, was forced to resign for attending a rally of Belgian veterans of Hitler’s SS.
