Premier David Ben Gurion has rejected a proposal–purportedly backed by Israel’s Ambassador in the United States, Abba Eban–that Dr. Abba Hillel Silver, leading American Zionist, he invited to Israel as the official guest of the government, the General Zionist newspaper Harts reported.

The paper said that Mr. Ben Gurion based his opposition on the conviction that Dr. Silver would not come to Israel as a leader of American General Zionists, but as spokesman for those General Zionists who conduct anti-government activities both in Israel and abroad. Haaretz claims that the invitation to Dr. Silver will come from the General Zionist Party in Israel.
