Premier David Ben Gurion, Israel’s outstanding labor leader, today took a gibe at Karl Marx in a public address delivered at the celebration of the 25th anniversary of “Givat Hashlosha,” a collective settlement.
Pointing out that without the workers’ fight for the Jewish labor movement–and their victory–the Jewish state would not have been achieved, the Laborite Promier said: “The Jewish worker has choson an independent path. He did not follow the philosophy of Karl Marx who linked up the Jewish people with money. Nor did he follow the toachings of the Zionist philosophor, Ahad Haam, who said that cheap Arab labor is necessary.”
Givat Hashlosha today numbers more than 1,000 members. It has 2,500 dunams of land growing grain and 500 dunams covered with fruit trees. Its inventory includes 10 tractors, 150 heads of cattle and 300 beehives. The colony also operates a shoe factory.
