Ben Zvi Re-elected President of Israel in Parliamentary Vote

Israel’s Parliament re-elected today Itzhak Ben Zvi, 73, for a second term as President. He will be sworn in Wednesday.

The sole candidate for the office since the withdrawal from the race of Dr. Joseph Rivlin, President Ben Zvi received 76 ballots, while 18 members abstained and 26 of the 120-member House were absent. The abstentions included representatives of the Herut, Agudath Israel and Communist Parties.
