Dr. Eduard Benes. Czechoslovakian Foreign Minister, who today received James G. McDonald, League of Nations High Commissioner for German Refugees, and Norman Bentwich, former Attorney General of Palestine and now head of the Jewish Affairs Division of the League refugee body, declared that the Czechoslovak government was ready to help solve the chief of the refugee problems, namely the special question of passports and labor permits.
Dr. Benes pointed out, however, that his country was unable to employ many refugees and could help only to prepare the refugees for employment in other and more suitable countries. Czechoslovakia was suitable for professional reorganization because of the cheapness of living conditions, Dr. Benes said.
The conversation centered on the suitability of Palestine as a settlement center for refugees, it is understood.
High Commissioner McDonald, who arrived recently in Europe from the United States to resume his work for the refugees, is making a tour of the centers in which they are located to ascertain conditions there. The governing body of the refugee commission will meet in London on May 2, under the chairmanship of Lord Robert Cecil. The High Commissioner is to deliver a comprehensive report on his work.
