Berlin Press Urges Asylum for Trotsky

Some of the leading German newspapers urge the government to comply with the Soviet Governments request to grant Leon Trotsky the exiled oppositionist Communist leader the right of asylum in Germany.

Remarks to this effect were made in connection with an incident which occurred in the Reichstag yesterday. President Loebe, speaking on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Republican Weimar Constitution, was interrupted by Deputies belonging to the Deutschnazionale and the Communist groups. Loehe “We are more tolerant. We are even ready to give Trotsky the right of asylum.” This remark was applauded by the majority in the House.

The “Lokal-Anzeiger” states that in is informed that the German government has intimated to the Soviet Emthassy that it wolud refuse a request for the admission of Trotsky if officially approached.
