The question of whether Bible reading should be allowed in this state’s public schools may be submitted to the people to decide by ballot at the next general election, it was disclosed today.
Last week, the State Senate Education Committee turned down a proposed Bible reading bill. Assemblyman John Collier then suggested it might be a good idea to put the proposal on the ballot. Jewish and other religious groups as well as a teachers association opposed the bill.
