Bitter Fight Among Jewish Groups Marks Roumanian Election Campaign

The various Jewish parties and groups aligned politically with the contesting parties in the national elections are in the throes of a bitter fight, often leading to high handed measures.

The fight in the final stage of the campaign has assumed an ugly aspect. Meetings called by one party are invaded by opponents and broken up. The fight is particularly sharp between the Jewish members of the Roumanian National Peasant Party, now the government party, and the Zionist students, on one hand, and the adherents of the Union of Roumanian Jews, which is politically allied with the Liberal Party. Several meetings called by the Union of Roumanian Jews, of which Dr. William Filderman is the head, were broken up by invaders from the other parties. The opponents did not permit Dr. Filderman to deliver his campaign address.

It was reported today that as a resut of this bitter fight and interference, Dr. Filderman complained to Prime Minister Maniu and to the Regency Council. The leader of the Union of Roumanian Jews has also drawn the attention of the government to the reappearance of the anti-Semitic student organizations. The reply of the authorities has not been made public.
