Blue Shirts Make Plans to Do Hitler to a Turn Tonight

The National Blue Shirt Minute Men of the United States will hold its first great demonstration in Brooklyn tonight.

But don’t get scared. They’re going to burn Adolf Hitler–in effigy.

Not like the white shirts, nor the silver shirts, nor like the brown shirts, nor like the white-sheeted KKK, the Blue Shirts have nothing against the government, the Catholics, or the Jews. Their purpose is to put a stop to persecution and to make the world generally and the United States particularly safe for democracy.

Commanded by Benjamin Lazare, the Blue Shirts will parade shortly before Adolf Hitler (not in the flesh, unfortunately) is tossed on a pyre at Stone avenue between Pitkin and Glenmore avenues at eight o’clock tonight. Flames will be fed with sacrificial offerings by the Brownsville merchants who are expected to take all German wares from their shelves, wrap them neatly in bundles, and toss them on the fire where they will simmer with Hitler himself (but, again, not in the flesh.)

TURNOUT EXPECTED

The Blue Shirts, created in Ocspectacle, tuber, are said to have gained a large enlistment among both Jews and Gentiles. At their temporary headquarters at 74 Thatford avenue, Brooklyn, they have devised means of enforcing the boycott of Nazi goods. It is understood that during the last few months they have employed twelve investigators to inspect the shelves of shops and department stores, report the display of German goods, and threaten the management with picketing unless the sale of German merchandise is stopped.

According to the officials of the organization a number of threatening letters from local Nazis have been received, which promise sudden and violent reprisal if the group is not disbanded. Acquiesence to Nazi demands comes in the form of expansion of the organization beyond the metropolitan district and into other cities throughout the country, according to spokesmen for the group.

STUDIES IN BLUES

While the Blue Shirts have not as yet donned their uniforms it is understood that blue shirts, blue trousers, and blue boots as other natty trimmings are being made for them and will soon be ready for wear.

Senior vice-commander of the group is Louis Riggio, and the financial secretary is Max Birnbaum.

At the demonstration tonight the following will be present: Dr. Maxwell Ross; Assemblyman Martin Cohen; Alderman Walter Hart, Noah Seedman of the American Legion, and representative of merchant groups, as well as delegates from the National War Veterans.
