A spokesman for the West German Ministry of Justice confirmed today reports that Argentina had failed to reply to a request last January for the extradition of Dr. Joseph Mengele, a Nazi concentration camp physician.

Mengele, who has been on the list of “wanted” war criminals for the past 15 years, was in charge of sorting out victims at the Auschwitz murder camp, dividing them into those to be gassed and those to be sent to slave labor units.
