Louis D. Brandeis, Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, has denied to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency having given an interview in which he was quoted as warning that “from 1940 to 1942 American Jewry will suffer more than Jewry in any part of the world.”
The Seattle Jewish Transcript of May 21 had printed a story declaring that Justice Brandeis made this “prediction” to Pierre van Paassen, a former foreign correspondent, and that it was being “exclusively revealed” for the first time.
The Transcript quoted Justice Brandeis as saying: “American Jews don’t know what is in store for them. They will suffer as they have never suffered before in 1940 and 1942.”
Mr. Brandeis informed the J.T.A. that there was no foundation to the story and that he had given no such interview.
