According to a Jerusalem dispatch from Joseph Levy, chief Near Eastern correspondent of the New York Times, observers believe that the British Government, realizing that Arab opposition is too great, is seeking to abandon the partition plan, and therefore is taking no action to discourage Arab protests against the plan, either in the Palestine press or in other Arab countries.
A Cairo dispatch to the Times said that Hassan Rifaat Pasha, Egyptian Undersecretary of Interior, was to summon today Arab leaders residing in Egypt as political refugees and to warn them that unless they refrained from political activities, particularly concerning Palestine, the government would be forced to withdraw its hospitality and deport them. A similar warning was to be given to leaders of some 300 Palestinian and Syrian students at Al-Azhar University.
