Great Britain will propose the withdrawal of overflight rights from countries condoning hijackings at a special assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Rome next month. This proposal was disclosed to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency by Alderman Michael Fidler, MP, who made available a letter on the problem of hijacking by Michael Heseltine, MP, Minister of State for Aerospace.
The letter was written in the aftermath of Fidler’s discussions in Washington earlier this year about measures on hijackings with members of Congress and the Administration. The British proposal is the most far-reaching one so far. The U. S. has not issued any proposals at this time, but the British are discussing the problem with the Americans. In his letter, Heseltine asked Fidler to continue on his own contacts in Washington on this subject.
