Britain’s prime minister said he will push for more sanctions against Iran to halt its nuclear development.
In a joint press conference with Israel’s Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Gordon Brown said his government would work to toughen sanctions both through the United Nations and the European Union.
Olmert said that sanctions were effective but not enough, and that all options need to be considered to prevent a nuclear Iran.
The meeting was the first between Olmert and Brown since the British premiere took office in June. Olmert is on a three-day shuttle to Paris and London to gain backing for next month’s U.S.-sponsored peace conference.
