The World Jewish Congress has protested to the British Government against an order by the British occupation authorities in Germany evicting six Jewish families in Juckersbors, near Cologne, from their homes in order to make billets available for Belgian troops being brought into the town, the Congress announced here today.
A similar protest will be placed with the Belgian Government, and representations have been made to General L. Bishop, British military commander in Germany, by the Central Committee of Liberated Jews. The order is to take effect tomorrow.
The W.J.C. has pointed out that the six Jewish families are exempted from confiscations by the authorities because they have a special status as victims of the Nazis. A spokesman for the local German authorities has expressed himself as opposed to the eviction of the Jews, and the town’s mayor has stated that other accommodations could be found for the Belgian troops.
