Government circles and some leading lawyers have expressed doubts concerning the effectiveness of a projected law to ban anti-Semitic activity and propaganda. The legislation has been under discussion in the Cabinet for some weeks. The Labor Party executive which meets tomorrow will hear a report of a deputation of its own members which recently met with Home Secretary James Chuter Ede on be problem of fascist and anti-Semitic activity. Ede reportedly told the delegation, which was accompanied by highly placed trade union leaders, that he considering an order to ban the use of loudspeakers at public meetings except during the period of the general election. He is understood to have said that without loudspeakers few meetings, particularly those of pro-fascist and racist groups, would be able to’ attract much of an audience.
