Patrolling by British troops of the Transjordan border would be considered a breach of the armistice by Israel, Moshe Sharett, Israeli Foreign Minister, said today after a talk with Secretary of State Dean Acheson, which lasted almost an hour. He was scheduled to leave for New York late this afternoon.
Sharett said “the basic principal of an armistice is the reduction of forces,” adding that the British had increased rather than reduced their forces and that the activities of the British forces landed at Aqaba might wreck negotiations “if they (the British) go too far.” A thorough discussion of the Transjordan situation was told with Acheson, Sharett said.
An armistice with Iraq was also discussed. Other matters reviewed, said the Foreign Minister, included. Jewish immigration to Israel, the Arab refugee problem and the development of the new state.
