The House of Commons tonight defeated, by a majority of 163, a Labor Party motion censuring the Government for issuing the Palestine land restrictions. The vote was 129 to 292. The Government rallied a much larger majority than its 89-vote margin in the debate on May 23, 1939, in support of the Palestine White Paper. The Government’s added strength was attributed to unwillingness of many members to oppose the Government during wartime.
