The attitude of Samuel Untermyer, Chairman of the Keren Hayesod and Vice President of the American Jewish Congress, toward the Ku Klux Klan question, during its discussion by the Democratic National Convention, and his statement that the Jews should not interfere in the matter, has aroused great interest in the leading Jewish circles here.
The influential Jewish daily, “The Day,” in commenting upon the matter asks: “To interfere in somebody else’s affair? Is the attack of the Klan on the Jews somebody else’s affair? Are we not vitally interested that the attacks be stopped; at any rate, that they should not come from a powerful and politically influential organization like the Klan? Mr. Untermyer thinks it is not. It is both comic and tragic. The question is only: ‘What causes a Jew, who holds such an opinion to remain in office as chairman of such a national Jewish institution as the Keren Hayesod?'”
Similar astonishment at the attitude of Mr. Samuel Untermyer is expressed by the Socialistic Yiddish daily “Forward,” in its issue of last Saturday.
