The Canadian government will investigate to ascertain if “any military exercises, movements or evolutions without lawful authority,” are being carried on in Canada, Ministry of Justice Ernest Lapointe has told the House of Commons.

Such unauthorized movements were an offense under the criminal code, he said. He promised that the Government would assist the provincial authorities concerned in prosecuting wherever such movements, “whether by Fascists, Communists or others,” were discovered. He made his statement in answer to an inquiry from J.S. Woodsworth, C.C.F. leader, concerning Fascist activities in Quebec.
