Missing for two days, Cantor Mendel Blumenfield was found dead today among the graves of the local Jewish cemetery, a victim of suicide by poison. Cantor Blumenfield was well known in Montreal, having officiated at numerous births and marriages and having conducted high holiday services for a number of years.
His suicide was attributed to failing health and straightened circumstances. He was 64 years old.
