At the last meeting of the General Assembly of the Jewish Committee of Oporto, Portugal, led by and largely made up of Marranos who have recently returned to Judaism, Captain Arthur C. de Barros Basto was elected President of the Board. Chief Rabbi Israel Levy of France, Baron Edmond de Rothschild, and Rev. Dr. D. de Sola Pool of New York, were elected honorary members of the community in recognition of the work which they have done in aiding the return to Judaism of the Portuguese Marranos.
