Colonel Driss Ben-Amar, Governor of Casablanca, today received Grand Rabbi Messas, president of the Casablanca Rabbinical Tribunal to discuss problems concerning Casablanca’s Jewish community. Meyer Obadia, president of the Casablanca Jewish community, was present at the meeting.

The Grand Rabbi also intervened with the governor, seeking the release of a number of young Jews arrested following a demonstration on February 12 in front of the community premises. They are now in jail.

The Moroccan racist journal, Akhbar Dounia, today published a vitriolic protest against the nomination of Jews to important posts in the Moroccan administration. The paper termed Jews “hypocrites and infidels” in this country.
