“Celebrities of our Time” is the name of a new book published in Yiddish by Jacob Mark, well known in Orthdox Jewish circles in Europe and in America.
The celebrities dealt with by Mr. Mark in his book are the rabbis. Taimudic scholars and educational leaders of Russian Jewry during the latter half of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century. The book contains 36 monographs and character sketches of 22 of the leading rabbis of the various schools in Imperial Russia and of 12 lay leaders and educators. It is of particular historic value since the author writes on the basis of his own personal knowledge of the passing generation and is a contribution to the history of Russian Jewry.
The book was published under the auspices of a committee of prominent New York Jews headed by Dr. M. Rabbi’s Robinson, chairman and Joseph Goldman, treasurer.
