The annual subsidy of $500 granted to the Poale Zion by the Pioneer Women’s Organization (Chalutzos) was sharply criticized by a minority of the delegates at the Pioneer Women’s Organization’s convention which has been in session here since Thursday night. The criticism came in connection with the discussion on the national executive committee’s annual report submitted by Leah Biskin.
The financial report showed that the Organization had an income for 1930 of $42,300 of which $30,000 was transmitted for the work of the cooperative colonies in Palestine, $500 for the chalutzim and the balance for shekolim and political educational funds and subsidies. The delegates were urged to strengthen the kvutzahs and to help build new ones.
At the opening session confidence was expressed that Jewish efforts in Palestine will overcome all obstacles. Isaac Hamlin and Berl Locker urged determined action by the Jewish workers for the realization of the ideals of social justice in Zion. One hundred delegates from 60 chapters in the United States and Canada are in attendance.
